Spirulina Supergreen Smoothie

I’m going to be very honest. I feel like I need a detox... ish. Lately, there have been a lot of celebrations, lazy-to-cook nights, eating out, take-outs. Today I woke feeling bleaowulrgh… Not sure if that's even a proper technical term.

So this morning, I thought I'd make myself a glass of smoothie!

To be honest with you, I like smoothie. It’s quick. It’s easy. It’s so versatile! Plus, lately I’ve been really good at sleeping in. And by sleeping in, I meant getting up at 7am.

This time, I decided to make myself a spirulina smoothie.

Spirulina has been gaining its popularity lately. This blue-green algae boasts to have 60% protein – 4g of protein per tablespoon. Filled with vitamins and minerals, such as iron, manganese, B Vitamins, Vitamin K, antioxidants, and much more, spirulina is amazing to reset your body after a lot of eating outs.

This smoothie is packed with other goodness too!

Kale – Kale is probably one of the top detox foods that we're all familair with, due to it being a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. The sulfur and glucosinolates components in kale help in removing the toxins out of our bodies. Kale is also rich in Vitamin C and beta-carotene, which are the top 2 antioxidants.

Cucumber – Cucumber is well known for its hydrating agent, keeping our skin moisturized and healthy. Its high content of silica helps in developing strong and healthy connective tissues in the muscles, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and bone. Also, cucumber is amazing to balance your body pH.

Hemp seeds Most high-end cosmetic products often use hemp oil as part of their ingredients. Hemp helps in promoting cell growth – a recipe for smooth, soft skin. Hemp also has a high fiber content, which helps in making you feel longer, curbing those cravings, and at the end of the day, bye bye extra few pounds!

1 cup almond milk
1 frozen banana
A large handful of kale leaves
1 tablespoon hemp seeds
1 – 2 teaspoon Spirulina powder
½ large cucumber, chopped

  1. Place everything in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Top smoothie with whatever toppings you desire. I topped mine with some granola, blueberries, and more hemp seeds. :)
