Matcha Pre-workout Smoothie
For the longest time, I never really paid much attention to the importance of pre-workout meals or snacks or drinks. 1. Because I never really liked pre-workout drinks. They taste gross! Or maybe I never really had a good one. 2. Sometimes I’m such in a rush to go to the gym that I don’t have the time to make anything or find anything.
There were days where I could barely lift my legs up for high-knees, and there were days where I could do a workout after another workout!
Lately, I’ve been making the extra effort and setting aside some time to prepare a pre-workout snack. I can feel the difference between having something before the workout and working out on an empty stomach.
I love this smoothie as a pre-workout because it gets me pumping throughout – loaded with carbs, protein and healthy fats! And an extra oomph of energy!
Matcha – Matcha is probably one of my favorite superfoods. Not only does it taste great, but it gives you a boost of energy without relying on high doses of caffeine or sugar. Due to its thermogenic properties, matcha supercharges your body and helps increase your metabolism and fat burning rate.
Oats – Oats are slow-digesting carbs, which means it takes a long time for your body to digest it. They are your premium source of fuel, providing an abundance of energy and so, preventing your body to use muscles for energy.
Bananas – Bananas are another great source of energy! However, unlike oats, bananas (or any other fruits) are fast-digesting carbs. They are great additions to your pre-workout snacks to give you a quick energy boost to kick-start your workout.
Protein – As we all know, protein is essential for muscle growth. It also gives you a bit of an extra push to finish your last sets. ;)
Nut butters – Nut butters are quick and easy! They are packed with healthy fats and fiber, keeping you full longer and energetic throughout your reps.
1 cup almond milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 frozen banana
2 tablespoons rolled oats
1 tablespoon almond butter
1 teaspoon high-grade matcha powder
1 teaspoon maca powder (optional)
