Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

It’s the season! Pumpkin flavored everything!

Though Fall hasn’t officially started yet, it feels like once August comes to an end, everyone packs their Summer outfits and brings out the sweaters, and everywhere you look, Fall decorations are out. Red-brown wreathes, turkey dolls, Halloween decorations, and of course, pumpkin-flavored EVERYTHING!

I, myself, am guilty to have an obsession with pumpkin-flavored everything! Not sure why. I’m pretty sure I didn’t grow up with pumpkins. They’re actually hard to find in tropical countries. But I don’t know why, there’s just something comforting about pumpkins. It makes you feel all warm and cozy inside.

One of my obsessions, of course, is pumpkin spice latte! I used to go around cafes and order their versions of pumpkin spice latte.

Until one day, I decided to try and make my own. With real pumpkin and less amount of sugar! :) And the best thing, no coffee-shop lines! Woot!!!!

1 cup strong brewed coffee
1/2 cup almond milk
2 tablespoons pumpkin purée
2 tablespoons maple syrup (or more to taste)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
A dash Chinese 5-spice powder
A pinch black pepper

1. In a small saucepan, cook the pumpkin purée and spices for about 2 minutes. Add in the maple syrup. Stir for a few minutes.

2. Whisk in the milk and vanilla extract over medium heat, watching carefully to make sure it doesn’t boil over.

3. Blend the milk mixture with an immersion blender, or regular blender. Pour mixture in a cup of brewed coffee.
